    Waiting for cse.google.com...

It seems this is something new, as many search result's doesn't offer a whole lot of "real" solutions on disabling/removing the frustrating and persistant file/setting.

How do I permanently disable and/or remove it?

I noticed some threads and posts here on the forums are asking how to create a "custom search".

I haven't created anything "cse" at all unless it' a default setting in google-chrome that I'm not aware of.

As for as I have searched, the google help center says it may be due to malware.

    Malwarebytes doesn't detect it.

First and foremost, where do you see this URL? It looks like a legit google domain. So long as what you have there as cse.google.com is a direct copy and paste from what you have there, and/or there are no funny Unicode characters for the letters c or the e or what ever that can fool you into thinking it's a real c or an e or other letters. The google part is the main domain. cse is the subdomain of google.

Now here's something I just found out. Remove Cse.google.com - Jan 2021 update

Malwarebytes and the rest is just a feel-good, privacy evading software. If this is malware it may be a browser extension, a browser plug-in or something installed on the computer. I'd just go to the bleepingcomputer website and have them tell you how to fix this. My solution is for you to do things beyond what you may want to do, up to and including formatting the entire hard drive and starting over. In the end, this thread will grow to several pages. Especially if you don't understand what I'd have you do. If this is malware, you need to learn mitigation practices, and responsible computing, up to and including not installing anything and everything available on the Internet. Learn to scan ALL downloads at VirusTotal. The general consensus is four hits and you toss. Learn about a program called HashCalc so you can just check the hash of a download at VirusTotal. Beyond that it gets more nerdier and cumbersome. I don't even run anti-virus software. Last time I got something was when I ran Windows 98se and yet I had AVG installed. I vowed never again, and thus it was.

It happens randomly, sometimes when I just open the web browser.
I see the message in a little gray box at the bottom left corner of the browser window.
It appears only when it seems like google chrome has froze up.
When it happens I'm forced to restart the laptop by holding the power button down because it won't even allow me to move the mouse pointer.

I never heard of it before so why would I be trying to visit it?

Maybe I should run ChromeSetup.exe that I downloaded from www.google.com/chrome through VirusTotal.
Yep, very possible google, inc might allow something to slip by them.

    Just ran ChromeSetup.exe through VirusTotal...

Responsible computing...I need to learn responsible computing?

If that means what it sounds like, then not using an antivirus application can be considered irresponsible computing because I haven't installed one in years for the exact same reason you haven't.

Thank you for the info and the heads up.

I think my best decision is to find a better and more lightweight web browser that my low-spec laptop can handle.

    Any suggestion's?

My own preferences, a couple of Firefox offshoots

Waterfox and Palemoon, both highly customizable

I use WF as my main, PM i use for all general websearching and regularly clear cookies and history is deleted on closure

But all browsers are a bit of a muchness, for more private browsing try Brave

    Brave

When trying them, checking their weightiness, which cpu and memory columns in Task Manager and/or Performance Monitor should I be looking at?

    ok...here's an Update...

cse.google.com isn't the cause of my hang ups.

I was in safe mode undoing some changes (re-enabling write-cache and c: index.
While in safe mode during the pc performing the change, the pc hung during the index procedure.
I didn't index the drive, I re-enabled the option to allow the contents to be indexed. It hung while the changes were in progress.

It's more localized than something on the internet.
