MS outlook Update your sign-in technology before September 16th, 2024.

    Hello all,

    I received this message :

"The safety and security of your information is top priority for Microsoft. To help keep your account secure, Microsoft will no longer support the use of third-party email and calendar apps which ask you to sign in with only your Microsoft Account username and password. To keep you safe you will need to use a mail or calendar app which supports Microsoft’s modern authentication methods. If you do not act, your third-party email apps will no longer be able to access your Outlook.com, Hotmail or Live.com email address on September 16th".

I am trying to work out how to rectify the issue but am really confused. If anyone could help I would be really grateful. My email is a Hotmail.com account/win7.

    Many thanks in advance.

I think it depends which email client you are using

Apparently the previous (username/password) authentication is being dropped , and is instead now requiring OAuth authentication.

I dont know which email clients will continue to work in win7 following the changes MS is making

    It is a massive PITA

    Hello SIW2,

Thanks for your answer. Today is the 16th September and my online Outlook is still working, so far so good. If it will go further like this then I have no problem, otherwise I am going to change my Hotmail with maybe Gmail.

Thanks a gain & kind regards.

I couldn't find out anything for sure but that probably means no Office 2007 or 2010. Strangely I don't have that email.

It is true! It is ambiguous! I get the impression that MS is willing to drive the users to buy subscription for their products. To be honest I am thinking to leave Windows but still I couldn't find the alternative.

You don't have to have outlook. You can get thunderbird or google it to find something else. There's also the online version.

I havent got thunderbird to work satisfactorily on win7. The instructions warn of it

issues can emerge without warning that cause Thunderbird and other non Microsoft email clients to suddenly stop working after working for some time....we have been forced to make configuration changes to Thunderbird, which may have side effects for users.
Microsoft don't provide an email client for win7.
