Why does IE8 take sooo loong to open a new tab?

    I removed and disable Accelerators and disabled most of my extensions and it helped a bit, but it's still pretty slow. the only extensions i have enabled are: Flash, Acrobat, and java.

    You could always try the reset button in options. That has worked for me in past when IE starts acting up.

    Maybe try disabling java as a test.

    I believe that each window is opened in it's own virtual running context, so something ike the Java engine may be instantiated/initialized for each tab seperately.

    yeah, I think java fixed it.
    from right-clicking to selecting open in new tab to new tab opening is about under a second, which is more manageable
