Websites that don't work with Windows Seven

Yup, some websites are browser fussy, and although these are fewer and farther between nowadays... I was astounded to stumble across a major postal provider whose website says (and does refuse!) to allow me to do business online unless I regress to Windows 98 thru' to Windows XP...

For those of you not aware, Parcelforce are the parcel courrier division of Royal Mail (thus are the equivalent of USPS...) in the United Kingdom, handling tens of millions of items every week...

I'm sure as hell glad I decided to keep XP on my netbook...

You could always use XP mode.

    Hello Qdos,

This may be just be a issue with them not being compatible with Internet Explorer 8 instead, while it may work with the older Internet Explorer 7 or older version. You might see if using Compatibilty View for the website may help any.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Tried iE8 in compatability mode before posting the screenshot, it was a definite no-go situation due to the operating system the website detects, and not the browser. I've no options left under W7 given it refuses to work with iE8 or another browser under W7

I don't have XP mode in my version of W7.

If they're that late with updating their software requirements I don't hold out much hope for their deliveries .....

Other parcel delivery services are available

They're pretty decent on international, and loads cheaper than DHL... but their website just refuses to play ball with W7 full stop - and that's not good enough given everyone, but everyone, knew months ago W7 was due for release...

I really hate when a website is set to "oh, you need win XP" or "internet explorer only". If they can't make their website standards-compliant, how can you be sure that their business practices are ethical and follow all laws?

    Hi all
you can tell the browser to report a different OS and browser version in a lot of cases

just Google on "Masquerading your Browser" -- simple to do with Firefox and most versions of Linux -- also works with IE -- you need to understand a bit of JAVASCRIPT -- not in my area I'm afraid but it DOES work.

    Cheers
