    ebay recursive login problem

    Hi all.

I'm using Windows 7 (x64) with IE8 and can't log in to my eBay account.

I'm stuck in a loop, just takes me back to the login page over and over. I have tried all the usual fixes, cleared cache, cookies etc, set the security to low.

Interestingly if I c/p the URL of one of my listings to the address bar I can view it, answer questions, edit it, create similar listings and so on. Sometimes this requires login, but it seems to work this way.

What is annoying is not being able to sign in to my account in the normal way.

    Any help?

Could well mean your ebay account has been hijacked amongst other possible causes, so I would recommend you post your issues on their community boards...

See if it helps if you turn off your Anti Virus

Try resetting your Browser. If you have IE, tools,> advanced > reset

Do a disc clean up, including cookies. Maybe your ebay cookies are corrupted.

This sounds just like something we had earlier with another user. Not certain, but check your computer's date and time. It can cause cookies to be out of date and rejected, resulting in what you describe.

If certificate dates were mismatched it would cause a prompt to display on screen in Internet Explorer, attempting to login and being denied entry isn't even necessarily a condition for a browser error.

Were you to have forgotten your login credentials the very same behaviour could be produced on assorted websites.

Hijacks on ebay are prolific, especially at this time of year. Once someone has got an access method to your account they can also discover your associated Paypal details, and since many people don't use differing passwords - from there the next stop will be helping themselves to everything in your bank account...

My account hasn't been hijacked. I can log in using Firefox 3, but Firefox 3 has compatibility problems with ebay - I prefer to use IE.

The current problem i am experiencing is specific to IE8, which is why I posted here.

The reset idea sounds good, will try and see how it goes.

    No luck.

I assumed a reset would clear all cache data. Interestingly after resetting IE8 I came back to this forum to find I am still logged in.

    What gives?
