    Add Ons

Most issues I have seen in regards to IE crashes and instability are do to add-ons reduce the add-ons in the browser and you will see a different browser not to mention by reducing the add-ons you tighten up the security of the browser as add-ons can and do contribute to security issues.

IE 8 is a stinker, IMHO...I frequently get a message my Internet Explorer has stopped working and then it checks for a solution and then I get the message close IE. I never got that with IE 7.

I agree 100%. I think the OS is great. Anyone with big problems is probably using a corrupted OS, and should try to repair.
While I agree that Win7 is great, the OP was talking about Internet Explorer - what version, however, is anyone's guess.
Fortunately, I also feel the IE is the best in conjunction with Win 7. I have tried others and I plan to stay with what I have.

Then there's a problem that needs to be and can be fixed. If you were happy with IE7, then you should be happy with IE8 too. As I noted earlier most IE problems are caused by add-ons and plug-ins. You can do as computersplus suggested and reduce the number of add-ons and that might help, but some make changes when they are installed so typically it is best to simply reset IE. This can easily be done through Tools > Internet Options > Advanced, then click the reset button.

Digerati I'm glad that you have already made the diagnosis and moved on. Now if I didn't know better Id say you were paid by Microsoft just to spout promo for the company. So far most that I have met here have been very nice but with your own opinions being so true I really dont know how you can be a help at all. If on this forum we have a small cross section of 7 operating system and in reliability you see crashes from quite a few and these are some in the know meaning people who are the Gurus of this board and dont complain and know how to install fix and modify the system then how many more do we not know about? I heard all the things you brought up and none are the problem at least with me. If you want to stick your head in the sand with this then go ahead there are allot of other people that want help to solve this problem. I felt like I had the only computer with this problem and was alone on it till I started to do research. Let me take you by the hand and show You how to solve a problem on a little bigger scale than what you may be used to.First find out how many others may have a common problem see what they have done and it may give a clue as to what the real problem is, not just a work around. I like Windows 7 on the whole but as a track record Microsoft has made some pretty big mistakes and just ignored others. I would think that with a mega research and development budget and Vista receiving such bad acclaim that they would be on top of this. The only common thread to this is it crashes on all different computers with all different add ons. Funny how XP runs ok and doesn't have this particular problem. OH sorry I know you really liked Vista it was a great operating system too so I had better not use that as a example. I am not bashing anything maybe except maybe people with either to big a ego paid by Microsoft or just plain head trip. There is a problem here and I know you guys will help and that's a good thing but really what can you do to help if the problem goes into a OS with a problem or IE 8? I mean really the thing is to common and on to many unrelated systems. You may find a work around but I would like it right from the start.

    Hold The Phone

Hold the phone no need to attack each other we are just here to help and we all have our opinions.

Some things to take into account here is the fact that 98% of all computers are infected which can lead to all sorts of crashes freezes etc. plus all the other things that lead to computer problems corrupt registry misbehaving drivers this happens much more than the average person knows.

It becomes to easy to point the finger at one thing when in reality is it's usually many things combined that compound a small problem which drives even the most skilled user nuts sometimes.

Wow dude! Have you got it all wrong or what? Okay, maybe you were not intentionally bashing MS for bashings sake so I apologize for jumping to that conclusion. But you opened this thread with,
    • No specifics as to your problem - only that IE crashes
    • No indication when it occurs or how often - just randomly - is that once a day? Week? 10 times a day? Every few minutes?
    • Nothing about when the problem started - since day 1? Last week? Last month?
    • Nothing about how you connect to the Internet - Direct to DSL modem? Wireless? Through Ethernet router?
    • Nothing about your hardware (Dell? HP? Self-built? Notebook? PC?)
    • Nothing about your OS (we can't assume you are talking about the computer listed under your username)
    • Nothing about the version of IE (I would call that fact of critical importance, wouldn't you?
    • Nothing about what you have done thus far to resolve the problem. Reset IE? Uninstalled add-ons? Complete malware scan? Purged temp files?
    • Nothing about what you found in your logs.
    But,
    • You make a blanket statement about "Microsoft and us"
    • Then finally ask, "Would someone would let Microsoft know so something could be done."

Let Microsoft know what? Some guy is having problems with some computer and with some version of IE and wants you to fix it?
If you want to stick your head in the sand with this then go ahead
Oh no, I don't run and hide. But I don't make blanket statements and present a bunch of what ifs either. Clearly you have issues with Microsoft that affect your judgment now. And only now do we learn, supposedly, your problems are not add-on related. Were we supposed to know that before?

IE crashing is symptom, not a cause and certainly a symptom of many causes that may or may not be IE related. As noted, your computer may be infected. Or your network may have issues. We still don't know anything about your hardware but you want us to magically offer a cure. I say to you, pull your head out of the sand and provide some information such as the make and model of your hardware, version of Windows 7, version of IE, how you connect, and what happens when IE crashes? What errors are you seeing?

No doubt SOME folks, even experts, have had problems with IE crashes, but don't for a second assume it is widespread, for it is not by a longshot - or that all IE crashes are due to the same cause, for they are not, by a longshot too. You report "even some of the big boys here have a problem" - how about showing where they are all having the same problem, same version of IE, same cause and with the same resolution - that's resolution, not "workaround". And switching to an alternative browser is not a resolution.

OH sorry I know you really liked Vista
Oh? That's funny since I never said I did. And more funny yet, I don't, and never did like Vista. I thought MS did a poor job with it, so I did not migrate any of my systems to it. But I do like Win7, very much.

You are right about one thing, I don't get paid by Microsoft to promote anything, and if you researched my posts you would see there are many were I do not speak highly of some of their policies, in particular, some of their marketing policies. But you will also find where I staunchly defend them when bashed without cause, especially over security where I must constantly remind folks badguys put us in this security situation, not MS. So I say it is fine to bash MS, but only when due and if you do, back it up with specifics, not generalities and hearsay. And as asked by Jonathan_King, "do you have a problem we can help you with?" If so, how about some specifics about your problem. Only then can we see if there is a common cause, and solution that may, or may not apply to you.
