    No mail server client any recommendations?


    No mail server client came with W7, that i can find, any recommendations? Thx Dorothy

    Microsoft wants you to use Live Mail. I use Outlook, but Thunderbird and possibly others are options.

    Many users who have access to a Vista Installation of windows mail have found a solution by copying to a USB stick the complete Windows Mail folder found at this location in their Vista computer: " C:\Program Files\Windows Mail "

    Then when they have installed Windows 7, they rename the Windows Mail folder in that installation to " OldWindowsMail" and replace it with the files they have copied to the USB stick. You then create a shortcut on your Desktop to the file "winmail.exe " which is located in the "C:\Program Files\Windows Mail" folder and drag/drop the shortcut to your Taskbar in Windows 7 and pin it there.

    Mr. Sinofsky at Microsoft will not appreciate this action since it is his belief that you should spend money to purchase Outlook as a part of MS Office, but that's your choice. Good luck.

    There will be many suggestions, but take the easy one first. Go to windows essentials and choose to download Windows Live Mail. I use it and it runs like a charm. It was specifically made for windows

    I tried Thunderbird, to confusing and hard to get POP/SMTP severs set. Had problem with Windows Live and deleted it twice, but have came back. Started to use gmail on line and setup my POP servers there, but decided google had enough on me already without my mail accounts.
    Little problem I have on Windows Live is somethimes deleted mail returns and can't be deleted in the usual way. Have found if you right click the mail, properties and the return to the mail it will delete the second time alright.
    I could install my Office 2007 and use Outlook, but being a laptop and when away from home if I am not on my ISP it won't send email
    So guess I'm stuck with Live for now

    Then why are they pushing Windows Live Mail, which is free?

    Due to monopoly issues that im sure you hear about.
    They cannot package alot of the software they used to into there os. They have to make it an optional download.

    If you are away from home use RDP to logon to your HOME computer --then you can SEND email as normal.

    In any case most ISP's also have a web mail type of service when you are away from home -- I don't like these --I find just SENDING mail via RDP is fine.

    Note for Remote Desktop on your home computer you need a version of W7 HIGHER than HOME PREMIUM.
