error icon in sys tray when opening win live mail

    Hello All,

When I open Windows Live Mail I get the usual messages in the system tray area such as Connecting, Authorizing, updating calendar, and then It finishes up with an Error Icon in the system tray. (Yellow triangle w/ exclamation point.)

Then mail which has already been received opens in my inbox but the client doesn't seem to check the server for new e-mails at the time I open it. It takes ten minutes for the new mails to come into my inbox.

Under "Tools" > "Options" > "General Tab" I have selected "Send and Receive messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every ten minutes"

Can anyone tell me why this is happening? If you need any more info on this ask and I'll respond.

    Thank you very much,

Sounds like it is a corrupt install. Uninstall Control panel...programs and features....windows essentials. The use Ccleaner. Then reinstall.

Make sure that you back up everything, before you start.

Thank you Richard for your response. I'll give it a try. I also use ccleaner so I don't need to go through that drill! Meaning download/install ccleaner. I will let you know what the results are.

    Thanks again,

ok, This shouldn't have taken this long but I have been having trouble all day with my Hughes satellite connection probably due to the weather, but not sure! Weather has been crappy, severe overcast, snow etc. bad news for a satellite connection.

I uninstalled windows live essentials and ran ccleaner and then re-installed the mail client, (this is the only app I use from win live essentials)

After the download/install the app came back with all my original settings and I was a little suspicious of this. So I went back into control panel to see what the installation date was for win live mail and it was changed to 1-8-2009 so I am reasonably sure that i have a new install.

However, I am having the same issues with the error icon in my system tray and the app doesn't seem to be checking with the server for mail as soon as I open the program but the settings remain the same within the tools > options > general tabs.

    thanks again,

One possible problem is that your email service is slow. What email do you use?

I'm sorry I don't fully understand the your question. My ISP is Hughes satellite, my e-mail client has been win live mail since I was running the release candidate of Win 7 last may or so. I now am running win 7 ultimate (full version) and have been running win live mail since this os has been installed. I pre-purchased this os from the MS online store and I have my full installation disk.

OH! and this is a pop 3 account if that is what you mean? does that help? If not please clarify.

    Thank you very much again,

Do you use the mail service provided by Hughes or do you use something like GMail or Yahoo mail? Have use used the same mail before you had the problem.?

Did the problem just start when you began to useWLM? Did you change anything else when you began to use WLM?

Oh, I see! I have a hughes account which I can access but I very rarely use it. Usually to check other e-mail accounts. I also have a yahoo mail account which I also never use.

I have used the win Live mail account since the release candidate of win 7 and also with Win 7 ultimate full version and I have had this issue since the beginning. This is not a new problem to me but today is the first time I have tried to spend time trying to solve it.

    Thank you Richard
