Youtube launches HTML5 support.. Goodbye flash!

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

This uses video tags to display videos and works considerably faster. Of course you'll need a supported browser. Only the latest version of Firefox 3.6.1 will work.

Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client

YouTube on the whole did a minor upgrade, decent options available on some videos.

Excellent news! YouTube is basically the only reason for me to use flash and thus the only reason to keep the 32-bit browser around. For all other purposes my 64-bit Firefox works great. I guess I will no longer read news about Adobe.

Excellent! But...do addons for Firefox x86 work on Firefox x64? If so, goodbye Firefox 3.6 x86, hello Firefox 3.6 x64.

I actually didn't know there was a Firefox x64 until I read this.

EDIT: By the way, is this the website where you can download Firefox x64 from: Firefox:Download - Mozilla x86-64?

64 bit has been around for sometime, but it's not officially released by Mozilla. That is the website where you get it.

It works, however not on all videos. Im using IE with GoogleFrame plugin. Also there is no option for fullscreen HTML5 videos.

Thanks TG, just watching vids now and noticed a nice difference; so is FF 3.5.7 unsupported? That's what I'm using. Thanks.

The installer keeps trying to place the files in the Program Files (x86) folder by default. I can change it to Program Files, but I find it odd that a x64 program tries to install to a x86 folder by default.

In the first post, it said only 3.6.1 is supported, but the YouTube website only says this:
    Supported Browsers

Right now we support browsers that support both the tag in HTML5 and the h.264 video codec. These include:

    • Google Chrome
    • Apple Safari (version 4+)
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame installed (Get Chrome Frame)

I tried it with Minefield and it didn't work. Hopefully they expand their support for more browsers because I am sick and tired of waiting for Adobe to release a flash player for 64bit browsers.

The website says that FF doesn't seem to be supported. IE with Chrome Frame is supported, but I don't think IEx64 will work because I tried it and it's not working for me.
