    Speeding up IE 8

I found this suggestion while looking up ways to speed up IE. Does anyone know if this could harm or hurt my pc? Will it really affect the security of IE? Does anyone know of any other tweaks? Thanks

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Browsers should be as tough as possible against attacks, and disabling security features is not a good idea.

You can speed up a browser safely however. Disable history and saved form data. Uninstall toolbars and the like. Furthermore, I would dare say the realtime internet protection offered by many security suites is unnecessary, too. Use a strong AV (I recommend the free Microsoft Security Essentials), and combine it with some common sense.

I agre with Jonathan, with explanation.

The common sense should be first on the list

and you may want to use this in conjuction with your A/V

    Nice post Jonathan.

Thanks guys for the advice and I will stay away. So the Microsoft Security Essentials seems to work well? How do I disable history and add-on data in IE 8? thanks

Yes, Microsoft Security Essentials works very well.

Go into Tools>Options in IE and go to the history section. It is all very intuitive; you should have no trouble figuring out what does what in there.
