FireFox laggy / stuttering at video playback ?

Hi, I had this strange problem ever since I use FireFox. Changing to version 3.6 didn't help.

Having this frozen screen (for 1 sec) every couple of seconds was very annoying while watching videoclips on YouTube for example.

Even when using the plain browser functions like scrolling, it lagged.

Just today I found something that finally helped me to get rid of that problem completely.

Open FF ► navigate to about:config ► put into the filter: browser.cache .memory.enable ► set to false by a double click ► restart FF

Hi, I'm sorry to say that, but it seems the problem has not disappeared really.

In the beginning it looked fine, but after a while it starts lagging again. That's very annoying, not only while watching video streamings, but also during everything else.
Even typing a comment like this, the delays appear constantly.

Well, I will research some more but if nothing helps, I'm going back to IE again.

    I Uninstalled Every addon/extension.
Uninstalled Firefox including user settings, cookies etc.
    Uninstalled Flash, Java and Silverlight.
Reinstalled Firefox, Java, Flash, Silverlight and Extensions.

That fixed it for me. It also fixed stuttering while scrolling.

    True

Well It all depends on which Firefox you are using.

The very first version seems to be the best but as it moved on it gets slower because of constant features.

Addons is a really good example.

I am using Firefox BETA version which as far as I know it alright, but it does like to crash alot on me.

All I can say it to tweak aroung with Firefox and then you will find a way which could lead to help for future problems.

@Cov, how high do you have your disk cache? I'm running 3.6 with 256 MB disk cache. Video and scrolling seem to be ok on W7 32 bit. I also use the same setting on Vista64.

VideoDownloader was an addon that I had problems with. I've switched to Flashgot.

I still get the occasional stuttering problem. It'll generally happen with multiple tabs open. While I'm typing this I'm switching tabs and watching NBCOlympics.com and Docus.tv videos without any issues. I could not do that earlier today before I did the full uninstall and reinstall.

If I notice any more glitches I'll update.
