    Browser not working after update

    Hello,

First time poster...can't seem to find anything when searching.

I have Windows 7 Starter and it came with the Emachines 250 laptop. I have had it for a few weeks and the other day the browser (Chrome and Firefox) would not load pages. It gave the general error saying that there was a "problem loading page."

So I did a system restore back a few days and the browsers began working again (they also work in safe mode).

It appears as if a Windows update is causing this issue, as my system restore went back a few days prior to this update being installed. I also did not opt for this update, it is a "critical" update that installs itself.

    Anybody else mention this issue?

    Thanks for any help.

edit: I guess it doesn't have to be the update causing the issue, it just seems to be.

    Welcome to the Forum

If it is working in safe mode the update is in conflict with another process or program.

Use the clean boot method to discover the cause of the conflict and then you will be able to correct it.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    No resolve.

Any way I can turn off the automatic updates? I will just system restore prior to the update and try to keep it that way.

You can change the windows update settings.

Go to search, type windows update>changes settings>then make the choice appropriate for you.

Stopping updates, however is not the best way to go. If interested, I and the membership will continue to provide suggestions.

    Good Luck
