Window 7 and Explorer 8 Problem

Jesse, just take your time, ask questions and read the tutorial. When you understand all that is in the tutorial, go to YouTube and watch how it is done, you can do it with no problem.

I've heard enough. Will go ahead and do a "clean" install. I've read the references that you gave. When I put in the upgrade disk, can I just behave as if I am doing an XP upgrade (which is a clean install)? Also, I notice on my other computers that I've upgraded that have XP, that it keeps the old version as well in Windows.old (I think). Can I just erase that when I've gotten a good install?

I think that you are making the correct choice. Do not count on that windows.old. Back up everything on an external (HD etc). The windows.old is for documents that you may have forgotten to back up and some have complained about its efficeincy. I will be here for you. Take your time, and enjoy.

It will be basically the same as the Windows over XP.

You are going to be so happy with the results.

Once you are sure that you have not forgotten to backup something, delete windows.old. All it does is take up room. You can delete it by going to the c drive >properties>clean disc> including system files.

Thank you, thank you for strongly encouraging me to do a CLEAN installation for the problem. I did it this morning. It was easy and had no problems. I really appreciate it.

I am really happy too. You finally have a brand new OS. What you had before was like an old car, that you painted and tuned up. Its the same old car, it just looks different.

Jesse, I just saw this thread, so I am a bit late to the "party". I have a HP Pavillion as well, that I went from Vista 32bit to Win 7 64 bit. The advice given was great, doing a "clean" (the term for what you did of course MS calls "custom") install is by far the best bet!

The only thing that I'd like to add, is that now that you have a newly installed OS, carefully re-install programs one-at-a-time, and evaluate each, prior to adding the next! Why? There is always a chance that a program may not get along well in win 7 (I had more of a concern about this as i also went from 32 bit OS to 64 bit), and it is easier to catch a misbehaving program if you take it slow, and make sure each program behaves well, before installing the next.

BTW, once your system is stable, and you have determined that everything is in order, keep in mind that you can get rid of the windows.old stuff, and reclaim a good bit of drive space.

TY for the advice, in addition after everything is working properly make a system restore point and a system image. Put the system image on an external hard drive. You will never have to reinstall, again.
