    WinLiveMail: contact groups

In "Contacts" I see "All contacts" and "Favorites." What is the use of this? When I start a new email message, and click to enter the address, the only list I see come up is ALL the contacts. I cannot go to the Favorites list ONLY, can I?

    Hello StickMaker,

By default, all new contacts are place in the "All contacts" location. "Favorites" is a group in your contacts. If you want a contact to be copied into the Favorites group, then you will need to right click on the contact and click on "Copy Contact to" and "Favorites" or any other group listed.

Afterwards, you should see the contact listed under the Favorites group from your New Message window when you click on the To button to add one.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Shawn, thank you very much. I don't see that "Favorites" list option when I start a new message though. Only ALL contacts comes up when I click "To:" in the new email message; see my pic:

    StickMaker,

You may need to scroll down or up the list of contacts to see the Favorites group listed, but it should be there.

You're right, Shawn, I see it there, under the "Fs" but the names listed below it are not the ones in my Favorites list and clicking "Favorites" does not bring up the list of Favorites either. It seems rather useless sitting there.............. If I click it, it will not "highlight" and if I then click "To:" it does show it as "+ Favorites;" at the bottom and clicking "OK" after that, does "work" but NOT as intended. It lists ALL my favorites in the email. I want only SOME of them........... NEVER all of them.

It appears that you double click on Favorites to add the entire group under TO. You can then click on the + sign to the left of Favorites in the lower TO area to see all of the contacts in the Favorites Group to edit out any that you do not want to send the message to.

Yes, it sure looks like that is about it, Shawn. I don't like that at all; Outlook Express was FAR nicer in many respects. This is not the only problem I've had with WLM.

Thunderbird is looking better all the time unfortunately.

    Thanks again!

You're welcome. Yeah, it doesn't seem as convenient that way to me either.

"Plan X" is not a very nice one but it will work. Most of my 800+ contacts are stick customers; I pretty well NEVER email them. So, I'll slowly and manually, change each one to have "zz" in front of his/her first name. That way, they will appear UNDER all the Favorites and it will be easy to pick the Favorites.
