VERY slow internet (100kbps), don't know what to do...

    Hi,
My internet is painfuly slow, and there seems to be nothing i can do.
Every other computer on the same router has a download speed of 7-8mbps, but
I can't top 100Kbps, which totally sucks. I am connected directly via cable to my router, so I suppose the problem is in my computer.

Every patch and update frome windows, my router (asus wl-520gu), etc. has been downloaded...
I'm using Windows 7 home premium, which i update when i can.

If anybody has an idea of the cause of the problem or knows a thread that speaks of it, please tell!
    Thanks!

Are you using "homegroup" for networking? Are there other non wiin 7 machines on the network?

If yes you should be using workgroup not homegroup. Homegroup uses IPv6 and on some system it has been known to have connectivity problems, slow downloads etc. You just need to create a new network using workgroup and when it is working disable IPv6 and kill homegroup.

    Welcome to the Forum,

There can be many reasons, which makes it even more difficult because of the lack of information in your post. With that being said, I would read Ken's post and take any necessary action. If that does not work. I would try with with firewall turned off. Make a virus and malware scan, take a ping test and do a disc cleanup.

In addition to those suggestions, I have left you a copy of some additional information on the subject.

Here is a site with a reliable speed test. I am giving it to you so that you can take the ping test.
