Issues with closing Firefox in Windows 7

My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

I'm having problems closing Firefox in Windows 7.
It appears that the program is always still running in the background and uses large quantities of CPU usage.
I always have to stop the program in Task Manager or reboot before it will open again.
Does anyone have any suggestions or a possible fix please?

    Many thanks in advance

can i ask what version of firefox your running? this was a common issue in 3.5.4 (and 3.5.5 i think....) but the latest version, 3.6 seems to have eliminated it entirely,

Many thanks for those tips my friend.
I suddenly realised that some weeks ago I installed a Winamp toolbar, so the first thing I tried was uninstalling it and lo and behold the problem now appears fixed.

    Thanks again
