    windows live mail help

    Ok

So i got my new laptop today and it had this windows live mail installed.

I have set it up with my gmail account. here is the problem.

Every 10 minutes it checks for new mail but it dosnt do the following:

    Make the new mail sound
Or show the new message icon at the bottom.

Yes i have the program open and running (in the task bar live mail is open with the clear box around it)

Anyone able to help me out here?

Also i have noticed the new dock and taskbar.....what is the diffrence between the them? to me, it seems like i now just have 2 task bars...but one is called a dock

Hi Mikamika, You may need to tell Windows Live Mail to make a sound for you.
When you open WLM you may or may not see the menu bar as it installs with it hidden. It can be enabled at the menus button in upper right. Go to tools, options and check play sound.
Sounds like you have a Dell. A friend got a new one complete with the Dell Dock. Appears to be a Stardock Object Dock. You can drag and drop shortcuts from your desktop into the dock.

And a tip if you want to minimize it to the notification area, run it in compatibility mode with Vista Service pack 2. And yes you may need to change the settings in Tools and Options.

Try control panel>sounds>tab for sounds. Then set it up.

It may simply be the system sounds are set to no sound for New Mail.

    To Check:
R/Click anywhere on the empty desktop and choose Personalize

Click on Sounds in bottom of Window and browse down to see if New mail is assigned a sound.

Hey everyone. thanks for trying to help.

It seems it works..but only when it wants to...

My wife sent me an email from work...it made the alert and the envelope showed down the bottom - I thought, good good, that has it working.

I just noticed I (because I opened the program page) that I have 3 emails from work, all of which are in my inbox, yet it didnt make the alert sound, nor show the envelope at the bottom notifiying me...

It seems it makes the alerts when it chooses to

I really have no luck setting computers up and i was hopinh this time it would be diffrent.

But thanks for your help so far guys and gals

I feel your pain. Windows Live Mail is not Outlook Express or Office Outlook. Mine still gives audio alert but quit the task bar alert some time ago. I have been using WLM since the Windows 7 beta. It works good but has issues. At least you found the right place to ask your questions. I have nothing but good things to say about the helpful people here.

Many other email clients, if you want suggestions just ask.

I've used it for a few week now and I'm thinking of going back to Office or I might give Thunderbird a whirl.

If you could suggest a free email client that would be great!

Any word on if they are going to fix live mail?
