just tested the site again this time in firefox safe mode and got the lockup again. i know it is not a virus, because earlier i updated my security software and ran full scans with both. i have noticed issues since going from 3.5 to 3.6. her is one page.

Firefox 3.6 hangs / freezes shortly after start

Logged in and am downloading Windows 7 Ultimate x86 ISO.
My account expired last week but I can still download stuff. weird.

EDIT: I just checked and I am using 3.5.8, and not 3.6. Guess I will wait to upgrade Firefox.

Ok- I disabled a Silverlight plug in and everything works but the how to videos. want me to install silverlight but then refuses and says I already have it installed. Reinstalled silverlight and no change. I'll just use IE if I need the videos for now.
