Can't receive or send msn.com email in Outlook 2007

I'm trying to set up my msn.com email addresses in outlook 2007. (Ironically they set up fine in Entourage.) I don't want to use the connector program, as it receives mail in a separate folder, and I'd rather keep my email together in one inbox. I've set the proper settings for both receiving and sending, but I can neither send nor receive. Any ideas? Thanks very much.

these are the instructions i used to configure the account, but i couldn't get it to work on my computer. Also tried using port 587 for receiving mail, but that didn't work.

    msn accounts in Outlook

When I follow those instructions I can neither pick up or send mail. If I use the outlook connector tool then it works ok, but it creates a separate in box, etc., which i don't want to use.

It keeps asking me for user name and password. Even though it's entered correctly, it keeps asking.

does the user name and password work through the internet portal to msn.com?

    yes, the address is fine

the address, info, etc. is fine. I can connect with a mac using the same settings (entourage) and I can connect using Thunderbird. But i'd like to connect in outlook, since I use it for all my email. Thank you for your attention--appreciate it.

There's one thing you can try if your sure the MSN account is pop3 and not web based mail. Where you set up the ports for incomiing and outgoing, put a check mark in the box below the port for secure ssl. Put the check in the box before you put the port #, do this for both in and out, then do apply, ok and it should work.

still not receiving, though sending works fine.

I still can't make it work for receiving (sending seems to work fine). Which port would work best? I tried 110, 587. and 995. Also, I don't know whether it's web based or pop 3. But it works fine on entourage on a mac, and using thunderbird on a PC. does that make a difference. Thanks again for your time.
