    Windows Live Mail Error

I recently got a new computer with windows seven. I tried windows live mail and it opened with no problems. I then used windows easy transfer to move my files mail etc from my old computer which was using XP but I was already using windows live mail on that computer.

The transfer seemed to go fine however when I tried to open windows live mail I was greeted with the following message:

"Windows live mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the windows live mail message store. Your windows live mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete its operation, then open windows live mail again. (0x800c0155, 2)".

The only option on this error is to press OK and then there is no further information.

I first decided to remove mcafee and norton trials that where on my computer but this had no effect.

I then reinstalled windows live mail onto the new computer which, had no effect.

I have used task manager to look for and stop any processes that look a bit suspect however, this didnt work although I may be missing something.

I have tried running windows live mail as administrator but again no effect.

I am convinced this may be cause by the 'easy transfer' however, I am not sure how. If somebody could show me a way of removing the files that were transfered I might give this a go.

    Thanks in advance!

    Danny

From the error message it appears that it is related to the email scanning carried out by your antivirus. So try disabling or uninstalling the email scan component of your Antivirus app. If that doesnt work, change your AV.

I had already removed the antivirus programs and still no joy.

Anyway after trying most things I could think of and everything suggested on the web I decided to restore my computer to factory settings.

I reinstalled everything and then rather than using 'easy' transfer to move my emails and documents I simply exported them manually on to a stick and then imported them a bit at a time.

I managed to get all my contacts and messages on and there was no problem with windows live mail even though I was using the same antivirus programs etc.

So I would say in conclusion that something imported by the easy transfer was the culprit, possibly Id imported a program or a setting from my old computer which latched on to live mail.

I would also suggest that when using windows easy transfer check in detail everything you are moving as it just acts as a bit of a hoover and you will end up transfering loads of things that you dont need.

Actually I would suggest that windows easy transfer is far more time consuming and confusing than simply picking up what you need on a memory stick and moving it.
