Even in XP mode? I only have one software application I had to run in XP mode [e-Sword] and it runs just like it did with XP-Pro, with no noticeable difference.

Yes, even in XP mode. I tried everything to get this one particular application to run better under Win 7 and it just wasn't happening. It just so happens that this one application is the main application that the whole business depends on.

Its not that big of an issue, though. I have my laptop set up in a dual boot (XP and Win 7 x64) configuration and I switch back and forth periodically. I use XP when I'm at work. At home or elsewhere I use Win 7.

By the way, I think Microsoft is making a mistake by not making IE9 available for XP. But I think it may be available for XP at some point. Like I said before, many corporations will still be using XP for years to come and will scream and complain loudly for the better security IE9 will likely provide. MS will probably cave in since a large part of their profits come from the corporate world.

If Vista is crashing then it's dues to crappy hardware, I've installed it on 100's of PC's in the home and enterprise environments (this gives me a little more room to talk than you) and it's a nice stable OS on decent hardware that's only fault was bad press and too low minimum spec requirements.
Well stated. Vista was a victim of poor marketing strategy.

XP was a really good OS - in its day. Even though it is obsolete, it going to be around for a while yet due to legacy programs. In the business world (to include government), there are many specialized and custom software programs tailored to very specific needs. There is no off the shelf replacement that will simply transfer the data to a new program.

This means the business will have to contract a software group to write a new program based on to compatible with Seven. That takes time and money - and then the time and money to convert once the software is on line. Eventually, it will have to be done and will be done. But it will not happen quickly.

Well Windows XP sound so cool and sophisticated back when it was new. And now that it is old, it sounds ancient and Micro$oft seems to be doing what they can to make more users switch from XP to Vista and Windows 7.

I got the impression from reading the announcement that they were talking about the full product as well as the betas. Maybe it's just the beta release that they're talking about.

By the way, I think Microsoft is making a mistake by not making IE9 available for XP. But I think it may be available for XP at some point. Like I said before, many corporations will still be using XP for years to come and will scream and complain loudly for the better security IE9 will likely provide. Oh for sure. No doubt that this will happen. Just not now. When the full version is done.

I agree. Typical strong-arm Microsoft tactics. If you own a copy of a Microsoft OS, you should be able to run the latest IE browser version. Any other way just doesn't make sense. It's a money thing, and that's all.
