    background download

    dear all,

one more query i will keep in front of you, i am using broadband with 2mbps surfing speed.
and i have download limit of 1gb per month, other than limit i have to pay more. and i have no use of 1gb per month.

but the problem is that i have marked that, as and when i login into my account (i.e. broadband service providers) it started downloading something in background, b'coz i can notice in "unbilled usage".

i have discuss with my other colleagues also, and they told me that it might be happen due to cookies, but i cannot find any cookies which is automatically download.

i hardly download 500 mb during the month including mails and all, but still i have to pay for 1700 mb or more.

kindly show any way that i can save my usage............

    ranjit,
    some things you can try.

    1) Scan your computer with Malwarebytes antimalware (its freeware). It could be a trojan or spyware.
    2) If you have a wireless connection, it could be hacked/misused. So check your security level and change your network key.
    3) Background downloads can also be caused by valid programs like Windows Updates, Antivirus updates, Firewalls and also if you have a torrent app set that way.
    4) Download the app call DU METER, it will show you when and what you are downloading. Install it then close all browser windows and any other programs running that use the internet (Don't disable your virus scanner). Leave your computer and check every 10 -15 mins in the DU meter Graph for activity. You may get clues from there.

You need to run DU meter for a few days so you can check on how much is being downloaded and when. Then try to correlate it with your expected range. suggest you keep an account of what you download manually (torrents etc.). Since your max limit is just 1 gb per month, these manual downloads should form the bulk with system downloads like windows and antivirus updates being a small part of the total.
Also, remember that every page you visit counts towards your download limit so if you are a heavy surfer, these may add upto a lot.
Ultimately, if your calculated amount does not tally with the isp's, you'll need to contact your isp and sort the matter out.
