Have to give permission to open Firefox

I am using Firefox 3.5.9. Operating system is W7 64 bit Home premium,. FF worked fine until a few days ago. Now when I click to open I get a box pop up asking if I will allow this software (FF) to make a change to my computer. Click yes it works fine.
I have made no changes but figure there has been an update that has messed up my browser.
Can anyone help me get rid of this?

First Go to Start > All Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)
If that starts w/out a prompt then one of your add-ons is causing the prompt.

    Otherwise...

    Uninstall Firefox (Keep settings)
    Reinstall Firefox.

If that doesn't fix it, try it without keeping the settings. You'll have to reconfigure firefox though.

If that doesn't fix it, you can turn down or turn off UAC (Not recommended)

Thanks - it gives the same error when I try to start in safe mode. Looks like I will have to do the uninstall routine to get rid of this.

Is this a W7 issue or FF?

neither... it is most likely a dodgy add-on. why are you running 3.5.9? the latest update is 3.6.3

Thanks for the advice. I upgraded to the most recent version of Firefox and removed the Yahoo tool bar add on and it opens fine now. Disabled the other add-ons as I cant remove them.

    Hello Pat !!

I guess the problem was some of the add-on requries admin privilege to run so you were getting the UAC Prompt. Once you disabled its gone !! Maybe it's the Yahoo Toolbar.

    Hope this helps,
