Dual Internet Explorers?

A few weeks ago I was unable to use IE at all for no reason whatsoever. I was running Windows Vista 64bit. After using the HELP feature I was able to reconnect to the internet using the link found there only for about a week until I noticed that there were 2 options to run IE (one 64bit) through my programs menu and 64bit IE was the only one of the 2 that worked.

Having contacted my internet service provider and tried no less than 8 methods listed in these forums I have yet to find the solution. I went as far as to purchase Windows 7 Ultimate (from the conclusion that it was a Vista software update that caused this) and the problem still persists and I have not been able to discover how to fix it.

To add to this the Adobe flash player has stopped working and will not re-install (tried 2 different approaches on this forum/site to make it install to no avail).

I home school my Son and this needs to be corrected as soon as I can. I am avoiding the $100+ hr tech support from my local computor store to fix his problem. I have been working on this problem daily for 3 weeks and have spent too many hours trying to fix it.

Can anyone please help?

-Joshua

Welcome to SF!

What methods have you tried to fix it?

Did you do a clean install, or an in-place upgrade from Vista?

Try using an alternative browser: Chrome or Firefox.

Good luck!

Go to All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > IE (no add-ons) - see whether that runs.

Try this, assuming you have a cable modem. Shut down your PC cleanly. Unplug your router from power. Unplug your cable modem from power. Unplug any other network related gear. Let it sit for at least a minute. Now plug your cable modem back in and go grab a cup of coffee/soda/tea/water, and come back in 5 minutes. Now plug your other network equipment in and wait a minute. Now power on your PC.

I can access the internet, but one works and the other doesn't. My main issue is that I can't view flash programs or open PDF documents from teachers (loads, but never opens) and it all seems to be setmming from the fact that I have dual IE's and when I open something it always selects the one the doesn't work.

I will try a clean install and if that doesn;t work I plan to jump off the nearest cliff.....
