How do I search Favorites in IE8?

    Hello,

Is there a way to search through my Favorites in IE8? Quite often, I remember a keyword, but not the exact title of a bookmark.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

    ~Antonio

I thought about doing that, but felt stupid because I felt there must be a better way (By now, you'd think!). But if that's how it must be done, then that is how I will find what I need.

    Thanks.

Firefox has a search for bookmarks. You could install FF, have it import favorites from IE then search. Does seem lame IE doesn't have a search, as some people over the years have accululated hundreds if not thousands of bookmarks, most of which are probably broken links by now. Which is another thing it should have a check for.

That searches the entire recent history, not just the bookmarks (favorites) which have been saved over the life of the OS. Nevertheless, thanks for the info. Sometimes I may want to find a site I was at recently but did not bookmark. Now I know that "history" has its own search.

    freeware favorites search

Google "DZSoft Favorites Search". Freeware. I've used it through several iterations of IE and it is indispensable.

Make it a habit to give a meaningful name when you save a favorite.

Don't just accept the default name offered by the website. Sometimes the name is irrelevent and it will be extremely long (>255 characters) and give problems when you want to take a backup of these favorites.

You will find the favorites folder stored in your profile folder in Users folder. Always make a backup of this folder in a drive other than C: system drive as a backup. This will save your favorites even if you reinstall your OS in future.

These favorites are nothing but shortcuts to the websites/pages. Once you colllect considerable number of favorites, classify them in to different folders like you do for your data file system. This way you will easily reach to any favorite even after years of saving them. There will be no need to search them. A little organization is all it takes...
