    Hi bobbyr,

Are you double-clicking on the IE icon on the Taskbar? It only requires a single click to open. If not, please clarify where (what shortcut) you are opening IE from.

IE8 will open more than one instance of the iexplorer.exe process.
This is normal function of IE8 and nothing to worry about.

Tepid, can you elaborate. I am afraid you lost me. Are you talking about the cached instances you see in Task Manager > Processes?

Good call Tepid! He could just be seeing the two processes - but let's wait for a response just to make sure it's not two actual windows popping up side by side.

Yes, this is a normal function of IE8 in both Win 7 and XP.
And, the more tabs you open, the more iexplorer.exe processes will populate taskmanager. This is normal.

However,, after re-reading the OP, I would agree about the whole side by side could possibly be 2 physical windows opening, which might be strange.

edit: yes I see how that could have been confusing,, I assumed others knew what I was meaning by process, I should have mentioned this would be seen in Task Manager. My apologies.

OK, that clarifies that one. But the op said he gets 2 IE's opened side by side. So I assumed he actually gets 2 IE windows.
