    IE 8 started acting up

So just today, a few hours ago, I noticed IE said 'Page cannot be displayed' for every site, yet Firefox works. So I checked a way to fix it, and it said try going into 'Advanced' and clicking 'Reset'. Now, that works, but after about 15 minutes, it goes back to not working. Could anyone tell me what I could do/check to stop this?

Completely close IE and run CCleaner to clean all the temp files.

Well, I tried that, but the same thing happens. Is there anything else I can do?

If you have any Toolbars installed (i.e. Yahoo, Google, etc.) uninstall them.

No toolbars, it's the default IE 8, as in I haven't added anything to it. It seems to only act up after I start a game in it which uses Javascript to open a new window. You install the game first as well, so it's not browser-based or anything.

A few things you can try. They are pretty straight forward so I appologize if you already tried these.

You can uninstall Java, then download the latest Java installer and see if that fixes the issue.

You can reboot your modem/wireless router. I know IE is the only browser your having these problms with, but lets just start with this for now. Just remember to power down all devices that connect to your router, then reboot the router. After that you can fire up the PC and see how it's going.

Please report back and let us know if the problem persists.

MS's support page lists a series of steps to troubleshoot this error including "Fix-it". Please run through those first.

You receive an error message in Internet Explorer: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

Hello !! Welcome to SF !!

Try few steps and see if that works

    Start
    | iexplore.exe -extoff it will open IE 8 without any add-ons and see if that works.

    In your Internet Explorer Goto

    Tools
    | Internet Options | Advance | Reset then see if that works.

It also might be corrupted DNS cache. To clear the DNS cache in Windows7,

Start | CMD | Right-click on it and select Run As Administrator | ipconfig /flushdns

    Hope this helps,

    Captain

Another thing you can try is writing down all of IE's settings, resetting it, and see which ones changed.

Can you tell WindowsStar put in a notice for more help?
