IE8 won't switch to new tab

IE 8 seems to have gone wacky with me. Now, aside from a number of issues for which I found other browsers have helped resolve and I don't need to use IE8 all the time, it stopped switching to new tab when I click on a link, whether ctrl-click or middle mouse button.

I checked with the settings and Switch to new tab... is on.

I'm on the verge of giving up on IE8. My most pressing issue is the auto-complete, in the address bar which was taken away. Safari is the only one of the three browsers I use (the other being Firefox) that still gives the full url when you start writing: for example: www.nyt and it gives you the complete NY Times url.

I have several issues with Firefox but, hey, I can switch to any of the three, depending on where I'm treading on. The latest with Firefox is when I click on a link in a certain website and it opens a new tab but immediately it switches to a search mode. To hell with it! I use IE or Safari when I'm reading items on that website.

Sorry to vent off this way.

    Thanks

Just one example of IE8 crankiness: I tried to open www.politico.com and just got the header and footer of the website, no content. I opened the same website in Firefox and everything is fine and dandy. What to do...

    Welcome Roxy,

My auto complete works fine, so it is a problem with your browser.

YOu could have lost autocomplet in 2 ways. When you delete browsing history and the days you choose to keep history. All found tools, internet options.

Another way you could have lost it, is by addons. Go to tools, internet options, advanced, reset. Get back tell me what happened. The reset will remove all the addons which you can restore later.

Thank you richc46. Did the resetting and reset the jump to new tab and it is working. However I now get green tabs and I had reset that to no color some months ago, but can't remember how to do it. I will continue searching.

One thing that seems to come and go is Adobe Flash Player 10. It works fine in Firefox but not in IE8. I actually gave up on this problem because it works when it wants, depending on the website I click on. NYTimes does not work (but it does in Firefox).

Anyway, thank you for solving the tab issue.
