cannot save as jpg from web browser 'file name not valid'

My laptop is barely 2months old and already i have a glitch in windows 7 !

I tried to save an image from a web browser ( i have tried both explorer & chrome )

Search for an image on google .... click link ...view full size image ... right click .. save as
    but ..

I go to save it, but it has started to show ' the file name is not valid'

it doesnt matter if i input the file name manually or not .. save to another location

it will not let me save an image from any web browser.

I can 'copy image' into adobe photoshop and then save.... but it will not let me do that in windows paint . So im guessing there is something wrong with windows only

PLEASE HELP COS ITS BLOODY ANNOYING !

    To resolve this behavior:
    1. Click Start, click Run, and then type: regedit to start the Registry Editor.
    2. Click the Name value under the following key in the registry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\Export\Jpeg
    3. On the Edit menu, click Modify, type: JPEG File Interchange Format in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
    4. Click the Extensions value under the same key in the following registry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Graphics Filters\Export\Jpeg
    5. On the Edit menu, click Modify, type: jpg in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
    6. Quit the Registry Editor.
