    IE8 will not load

I have a new Lenovo computer with a 3.0 AMD dual core processor. It has 3.0 G of RAM. I was running IE8 but now it will not load at all. I have updated and run scans with Malwarebytes and Spybot search and Destroy but that has not helped as of yet. I have also disabled all of the add ons in IE8 but it will still not load. Firefox loads and performs fine but I would like to be able to use IE8.
I have tried to use Hijackthis but it seems to not perform correctly.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Go to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer, find the iexplore.exe and try to start it from there. If it starts, you have only a shortcut problem. If not, run sfc /scannow in elevated Command Prompt.

I went to command prompt and the message I got back is that sfc/scannow is not an internal or external command?
    Please advise

    On IE8 menu bar try tools/internet options/advanced/reset

There is a blank in front of the slash. If you miss that, the command cannot be recognized. Just paste the command from my posting.
