Oversight in windows live mail beta

I just installed the new beta of Windows Live Mail. Not to bad, even if the ribbon interface is a bit cluttered. THERE IS HOWEVER ONE GLARING OMISSION. There does not seem to be any way to create message rules. I have been using this handy little tool for years to automatically sort my emails.

Using message rules the email client will automatically send email to different subfolders of the inbox at time of download. It does so based on “from” part of the header. I have special subfolders for family and friends, people I work with (for work related emails) and my newsletters. This way these special messages don’t get lost among the usual crap in the general inbox.

I hope that this is an oversight in the beta and Microsoft is not planning to remove the ability to make message rules for sorting emails in the final version Windows Live Mail. If so I will be a very unhappy camper. I just might decamp to Thunderbird.

Hello Jim, welcome to the Seven Forums.

As you certainly know, you can not make rules for IMAP accounts directly in email client; instead IMAP email rules (webmail) have to be made on the web interface of that email address. An email client, in this case WLM Beta, then downloads messages to corresponding folders.

For POP accounts you can most certainly make rules in WLM Beta, simply by choosing the Folders tab and clicking Message Rules.
