Sample of no-joy link.

That HAD been done, but redid it now and same problem - bunch of blue "Connecting...." tabs..

FYI: here is a sample of what it would not open (Although if I paste the non-xxed actual URL into a blank tab - it opens nicely.) - I have xx'd out account info -

This is shown just for the form or TYPE of URL link that won't ,open, Ron, and the sample below is just that - not a live link to test.

ID's had to be XXX'ed as any changes made are live to the Church site immediately.

Assuming you're pps1989, you said: "but I am relegated to clicking "properties" for the link, copying the URL and pasting it for at least 40% of the links". I noticed that in my email programs (WM or WLM), "properties" is not on the right click menu but "copy shortcut" is. "Properties" does appear in the right-click menu for links in a web browser so I wonder it you're using a web based email program.

But in either case, when you left click on a link (good or bad) it appears in the address bar of the browser. It should look the same as it did in the email. So I guess we need to see two samples:
1) The link copied from the email in your sent items folder, and
2) The link copied from the browser's address bar after left-clicking on the link in the sent items email.

Yes - I am PPS1989 (post-Polio-Syndrome diagnosed in '89) - Didn't notice that my auto-fill routine picked up on my old logon, Ron (assuming "Ron" is correct )...

I use THUNDERBIRD exclusively and I fully realize what you said, but my problems are in Web-Based links!. I apparently was unclear in establishing that, and apologize for the error of omission. It is not a mail-link problem. Web -Based links seem to often open the 1st level (main page), but liks therein are the ones that fail most of the time and require me to copy/paste.

The link I sent you that would not open was on a Web site where I was working on our Church Calendar creation and needed to access a feature addition that STILL only gave the "connecting..." Tab. - even when accessing simple text files.

I sent the URL mostly to question if the TYPE of link (ASPX) or it's extension was a problem..

Earlier I had a more serious problem on my Medicare.gov site, when I could not access the next section of the report until I DID right-click the link on "page 1", read the URL therein and copy-paste it onto the Address bar to get to "page 2".

So your problem is when using IE8 or Firefox you click on a link in a web page and it fails to open about half the time. But if you copy and paste the URL into an address bar it works properly. You've reset IE8 and set it as the default web browser. What if you left click on the link so another tab/window opens. Then open another blank tab/window and use copy/paste in it. Compare the contents of the address bars. They should be the same. Are they?

FIXED - At least for me!

SOLVED (For me at least)
Have had nothing but success linking now:

This worked for me at:

How to Fix

and select last entry - the Registry patch..

Will keep updating on success stability.

Kudos to yourself for finding the "How to Fix" link. Microsoft should make that part of "Reset...".

Note that there's a script that can do this (and many more) fixes to IE8 and IE7 when this happens, for future reference:
