Well I am in the same boat!!

Have a new WIN7 pc which I like very much and was using gmail which is fine but I wanted an email client and after having good success with ThunderBird in the past I just tried 3.1.

IT SUCKS...sucks worse than any MS software I have used....I am not willing to pay MS for outlook...what a $140? so will look at these free options. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I have always stayed with the MS products, Outlook Express, Windows Mail and now Windows Live Mail. We are all different, but I am 100% satisifed; but then I just care about performance unlike others who dont like the color and so on.

You're right... but for me Live Mail's performance is very slow...

I think Opera would be a nice alternative. The search functions sound good.
Anyone having experiences with it?

You can purchase it by itself, separate from the Office suite. It has never been free though.

OpenOffice is an Office suite application. It does not contain any e-mail application.

Well, there USED to be. It really is a disappointment that MS stopped adding Outlook Express for free.

I used Outlook for many years and I was happy with it. It was quite a surprise when I got my new PC & found that it not only wasn't there, but I would have to pay for it.

I reluctantly went with Thunderbird, and although it wasn't what I wanted, I am happy with it.

I have been using this alternative for six months now for my personal email account;

Reinstate Vista's Windows Mail in Windows 7

I have been very happy with it and have had no problems although i have not tried it with multiple accounts.

Our member Poppa Bear. works hard to keep the tutorial up to date & current in regard to security patches.

That is my choice, also, works fine with three Pop3 accounts and 1 IMAP

What mail program to use instead of Live Mail?
I've been using Live Mail for over 2 years now and I quite liked the old version. But now I got a new computer, had to re-install Live Mail, and the new version is horrible. I hate those tiny tiny icons in the left corner of the screen, and also the overal look and feel of the new UI. If there...
