    Cannot SEnd Emails

Using Firefox with Windows 7 I cannot send emails. I can receive, view sent emails, junk mail etc but,,, when I try to send an email I get " Cannot establish SSL with SMTP",,,,,,,,Conect error 336031996"
After many attempts by my ISP over lenghty calls no one can correct the problem. The final comment has been thats its a quirk with Windows 7 and I should return to XP.
Interestingly, using a friends hard drive on my computer I can send emails, so it suggest somekind of set up issue on my hard drive.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Put the name of your internet provider and pop3 settings in Google. If you still have problems, repost with the information and we will help you set up.

    Two things

first SMTP doesnt usually use SSL,

second the error code is just that the server is receiving an "unexpected" result. That may just be that SSL is enabled. Have you asked your ISP what the settings are supposed to be.

We could use what your email client is and what the isp/web email server is.

Are you using an email program and if so which one? Firefox is a web browser not an email program. Perhaps you are using web based email?

Sending email is sometimes more difficult than receiving. Outgoing mail servers must be set up exactly as specified by the ISP whose mail server you are using.

    Cannot Send Emails

Im using Mozilla Thunderbird for emails but have also tried Windows Out look , neither work. The ISP (iinet) tried different settings to no avail. During one or two of the seven phone calls to the isp, a couple of people were concerned that the settings included imap rather than pop3 but changing this detail made no difference. The emails I send are kept and I can view them in the sent box. Im sorry Im not more technically minded and cant give you perhaps more specific technical detail. Im guessing if 7 calls to the ISP involving different 'sets of eyes' cant solve this issue I might have to return to XP where the email works perfectly fine. Altertnatively, I could just go back to Yahoo mail.

Whatever POP3/SMTP email settings you have in XP would be the same in Windows 7. Neither the browser nor the OS should matter unless the email program your using is not compatible with the OS it's installed on. The Windows version of Thunderbird should work on all versions of Windows from 2000 through 7 according to their system requirements and FAQ: FAQ Thunderbird and Windows 7
