BSOD on shutdown - please help.
Hi, I'm inexperienced at posting in forums so pls excuse me if I do something wrong here. I followed the posting instructions and downloaded the System file collection app .exe file but when I ran it as Administrator my Norton SONAR thought it was a virus and deleted it.
I'm running Windows 7 (64 bit) on a new Hp Pavilion DV6 notebook. A few days ago my USB mouse stopped working. Around the same time, I found Windows seemed to take ages to shut down - so long that I would go away to a meeting and then I'd notice it showing the login screen when I return 30 - 60 minutes later. When I login, it warns me that it had an unexpected error and when I view the details it shows:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 5129

C:\Windows\Minidump\072710-17643-01.dmp
C:\Users\Mike2010\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-34788-0.sysdata.xml
After this problem happened a couple of times I also had new error messages appear, such as:
CLIStart.exe - Bad Image
C:\windows\system32\atiadlxy.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error... [I Googled this file and found it related to ATI Catalyst so I went through Control Panel to Programs & Features and Repaired it, but the error message still appears.]
Smartmenu.exe - Corrupt File
c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart\Movies & TV is corrupt. Please run chkdsk... [I ran CHKDSK /F from command prompt and it found and repaired a lot of corrupt files. This error message no longer appears]
Although my USB mouse is now working again, my notebook still seems to hang and then BlueScreen every time I now shut it down. I tried rolling back to a restore point, but it fails at the stage of trying to create mirror(?).
Please can anyone help before I have to go back to factory settings and reinstall all my apps and files from scratch.
Thank you very much for reading this.
Mike.
