k, so here's the latest:
When I check driver properties for release date on the current driver it says 12/2/2008. When I download through Gaetway, and install the new driver it says "deleting current driver". Then re-start, then installs new driver and the date is the same 12/2/2008 !
After the re-start a small icon pops up at the bottom right stating "preparing driver for use", prior to the install of the new driver from Gateway.
Thoughts on this?
Should I try the link from RealTek?
yeah. Try the link from realtek that will have the newest drivers. Gateway might not have updated their drivers for this system. It happens. Hopefully the General Drivers from Realtek will work perfectly!
Ok, so I downlaoded the driver from the link. The readme says:
"---------------------
Version Information
---------------------
MassStorageDriver (XPVistaWin7_WithLogo)
Driver 6.1.7600.30122_100617
Dll 1.0.0.13_091102
Tips:
1. Install CPRMDll in 32bit OS (v1.0.0.9)
2. ForceHCResetOnResume in Vista
3. RmbChange in Win7 (v1.03)"
Not sure what that means. A screen of the folder is attached. I click setup.exe and it stops insatlling about 50% and gets stuck there...
Unless it takes over 20 min to install, which I find odd.
do you have win7 32x or 64x?
Also, the screenshot didn't get uploaded. did you attach .jpg by clicking on the paperclip, selecting file then clicking upload?
Sorry, my mistake there.
Screenshot is attached.
Ok, simply wanted to report back. I have good news and bad news.
First the bad:
For some reason, the PC is not letting me update the now infamous RealTek card reader drive. No matter where I get it from, it stops, or freezes and it just won't let me update.
The Good:
It was indeed the RealTek driver causing the issue, because since then, what I have tried is every time right before I log off, I DISABLE the RealTek Card Reader and it shuts off just fine. When I turn the computer on again, I ENABLE it, and everything works fine.
For now, I'll live like this. Someone simply confirm that there's no problem in disabling and enabling the card reader before shut down and after log on?
Thanks for ALL YOUR HELP X10000.
depending on what the program is, you could write a simple batch script to do a "net stop"
Are you "DISABLING" and "ENABLING" from the Services window?
if so you can do this by following these instructions:
...............Also, if you give us the name of the Service, we could create these for you.
--------------------------
These instructions are a little technical. If you are uncomfortable doing this or have any confusion, just post the service name and we can create the .bat files needed.
--------------------------
right click on Desktop
click on New
Click on Text Document
type in
Save the file as "StopRealtek.bat"net stop "service name"
end
You can also then create a StartRealtek batch file by:
Copy the first bat file and rename to "StartRealtek.bat"
Then right-click the file and Choose Edit or Open With - Notepad
Change the text to "net start" instead of "net stop"
Here is a good resource for explanation of this:
Net stop: Management Services
