I have an identical problem on a Dell Precision M4500 with i7 processor running 4GB Ram, Windows 7 64-bit...

BIOS recently upgraded, 7/20, to A04.

I just downloaded Processor Explorer and will report back my findings. It does not take long for this issue to occur and it usually happens when I leave the system idle for a while.

It is, however, extremely annoying and I would like to get the problematic process killed off for good.

Ran process explorer on both machines, nothing seems to be out of whack. I did some further troubleshooting and found this however.

This only happens to the machines if they are on our Domain. I took the Inspiron off the domain completely and the problem went away, it's running like a champ.

I trid a little different approach on the Precision M4500. Instead of removing it from the domain, I created a "test" organizational unit in our Active Directory, then made it to where no GPO's were applied to it, (just to rule out that it may be caused by one of my group policies). Let the computer run overnight, and when I came back in the next morning it still had low memory error. So I then took this machine off the Domain, and it's been fine. So it's got something to do with the domain... not looking forward to troubleshooting this one.

^^ Interesting...

My M4500 is registered to a domain however I do not connect to the domain as I work in the field. No VPN connection either so effectively I should have the cord cut from the domain the PC is registered to.

I also have not been able to identify a rouge process that appears to be causing this issue.

would be interesting to see if you took it off the domain if it would stop....

Yes, that is certainly a possibility but I can't say it will definitively happen. I do have a colleague that just received a M4500, he is here on site at a customer location with me, and I will discuss it with him. He does not have the M4500 with him now but he has mentioned he will be removing the domain from his M4500.

He has not booted the laptop yet and does not know if he has this memory issue.

I will update this thread with anything I find.

AtomicVette and RedRocket204,

I need your domain specs:
Domain Server Version (i.e. 2003, 2003 R2, 2008, or 2008 R2)
Domain Mode (Native or Mixed)
Are all the Domain Controllers the same? (All 2008 R2 or are there some remote DC's 2003 R2 but the home DC's are 2008 R2 etc.)
Workstations: Are all workstations Windows XP or newer? (If you have Windows 2000 or Windows NT I need to know).
What version of Exchange (Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010)? Are all the Exchange Servers the same version? Or do you have mixed Exchange (i.e. some 2007 and some 2010).

How is the network setup?:
What is the LAN Speed?
What is the WAN Speed?
All TCP/IP or are there other protocols (i.e. IPX or Mac)?
IPv6 running on the network?

This may be a difficult one to figure out but since we have 2 different domains with the same issue we can look for the common problem.

I do not have direct access to the information you seek as I am not the system admin. I will request this information from our IT dept where most likely they won't have an issue providing it and I'll post it up.

I assumed you were the IT guy. Not to worry then. I would enter a trouble ticket with your IT department and have them resolve it. Maybe they will post here and we will still get a chance to resolve it.

If you don't have admin rights I will be diffucult to resolve this. Do you think your IT department will join the forum or work with you???

eh, we're a relatively small company and our IT is a bit hands off. We have admin rights on our laptops. IT will not support anything we do that is outside their IT support realm. If we have major issues with our laptops, we are given a ghost image to start over.

That being said, the information you seek will most likely be given to me once I can get them on the phone

virtual memory
My windows 7 machine has 16 Gb of RAM memory, an SSD (vertex 111Gb) disk and 2 WD (1Tb) harddisks. To save space on my SSD, I was advised to remove my virtual memory, which I did several months ago. Everything worked fine after that, even Photoshop. This week I started working with MAGIX which...
