    Windows 7 pro 64 bit freeze/crash

freezes 100% of the time I use the internet
freezes/crashes with use of other programs randomly
amount of use required varies before crash
issue still occurs in clean boot
believed to happen once during safe mode
all drivers are updated - according to windows device manager and drivermax
memory timings have been changed from 'auto' to 5-5-5-18 (read that worked for someone)
power options have been adjusted to 'high performance' (again read that worked for someone)

    system info:
    MOB - MSI P7n SLI
    CPU - intel core 2 quad 2.66
GPU - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (just one, the other died)
    MEM- 4GB (1GB Corsair DDR2 XMS x4)

    any help would be appreciated

I also noticed that I get the same 5 events occurring in the event viewer every time the freeze occurs

    Source
    ID Category
    volmgr 46 none
    eventlog 101 event processing
    wininit 11 none
    volmgr 46 none
    eventlog 6008 none
    kernal-power 41 (63)
    volmgr 46 none
    eventlog 101 event processing
    wininit 11 none
    volmgr 46 none
    eventlog 6008 none
    kernal-power 41 (63)
    ......
occasionally there is a 'WLAN-AutoConfig 4001 none' event as well

    any ideas out there?

I notice three things. First, AVG should be removed. It is known to cause crashes and the like in Vista and 7.

Here is the AVG removal tool: http://download.avg.com/filedir/util...removerx64.exe

Replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (also free): www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Second, your Brother modem and serial drivers should be updated.

Third, your Broadcom drivers should be updated.

Those 3 things are all network related and should hopefully solve your problem.

    thanks for the reply

I've tried using device manager, drivermax, and driver detector but I can't find any out of date drivers. Is there a better tool to use or am I looking in the wrong place?

We recommend that you do not use third party programs to update drivers. Go the manufactures' sites and search for the drivers there. Download, install them and reboot. If you need help with this, just ask; and we will try to assist you.

    Ok

I think I'm going to need some help because my modem is a Motorola, I don't how where/how to update the serial drivers, and I wasn't aware I have any 'Broadcom' devices

Some hand-holding would be greatly appreciated

I cannot say whether or not all of these outdated drivers are loading. Without the dump file, it is more difficult to gather than information.

I suggest you start with the drivers whose dates are in red font. Update these drivers and/or the software that is associated with them.

I assume the Brother drivers are for a printer? If there are no new drivers, you need to consider updating your printer or whatever device they are associated with.

Here some some guidance on finding drivers:

    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Now I'm really confused because I don't have a printer (I've never had one). I also don't recognize the company's associated with those drivers vs my components. Is it possible for me to have drivers for hardware I don't have?

Is there more information I should attach that would be more helpful?

It looks like this is a homebrew machine, so what installation media was used to install Windows? You have a TON of disk filter drivers installed, and the hardware doesn't exist on the machine - that's really odd, because Windows is usually really good about installing only drivers for components that are installed, but I've seen vendors that overload their installation WIMs with drivers and end up getting drivers loaded during specialize that don't exist on the box.

This doesn't seem likely you installed from a stock Windows 7 DVD, so what kind of mods were done to the source to get you in this state?
