Windows 7: Win 7 freezes on "Preparing your desktop"

Ok, mbam showed no infections. I downloaded the driver from Synaptic's site, uninstalled the old on, installed the new one. My touchpad works great, but now I'm experiencing crazy random CPU spikes. Chrome, which is usually very snappy, lags hard or completely freezes up when trying to load a page with lots of images or flash objects. Upon trying to open iTunes, the entire computer freezes and I have to force a reboot. I haven't been able to identify what is causing the spikes, because when they happen, I can't navigate to Task Manager before it completely locks up. Everything is dandy when in safe mode though. My CPU usage is 2% as I type this from Safe Mode.

It's okay, I'm about to call it a night anyways. Coincidentally, it just locked up for the first time while in Safe Mode. It happened when I started the Resource Monitor.

So

You had a problem, identified as a driver
We uninstall and install new. Seems to be a problem with the new installation

Drivers - Clean Left over Files after Uninstalling

If the problem still continues, try the clean boot again.

I have Win 7 Pro and this is happening to me too. In fact, just yesterday it did it again. When I clicked to log on, it said "Preparing your desktop" and signed me in with temp profile.
