I've done a whole lot to try and fix this problem.
-Ran Memtest for about 9 hours with no errors at all
-Updated my BIOS to the latest version
-Updated the drivers I know about
-Checked to see if Speedstep or any of those things were disabled and they weren't.
-Ran Chkdsk which came up clean (then for some reason I started getting blue screens after logging in to windows)
-Ran 3dmark a few times and it wouldn't crash but would crash randomly if I watched a youtube video?
Series of events was something like this:
Woke up, computer started freezing with no response to anything I did so I've have to power it down completely to restart. Did a bunch of things listed above to try and get it to work with no success. Reformatted and that didn't work. Ran chkdsk and now I get bluescreens after windows lets me log in and mess around on the desktop for a bit.
Edit: oh and the stop error I'm getting in the BSOD is 0x000000c9
