    BSOD when changing Resolution

I have been getting a lot of blue screens lately all associated with changing resolution or anything that changes the desktop shape. I just get a BSOD.

I tried using the SF Diag Tool. Here is the file, I will be grateful if you could help me.

    System Information:

    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
    CPU: Intel I7 860
    RAM: 8GB DDR3
    GPU: Nvidia GTS 240

Please fill out your system information. Go to your User CP at the top of the page, look in the left column and click on Edit system specs. Filling in your specs will help us help you.

You can make this easier by downloading Speccy
    .

Not surprisingly based on your description of the symptoms, both dumps point to hardware or hardware related problems. The second dump blames nvcplui.exe
which is your NVidia Control Panel.

Since we think it is video related, read through this threads even though you did not get a stop error code 116.

    STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

    https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tml#post280172

I suspect a driver problem which is not uncommon with video cards. I suggest that you go to Nvidia website and look for drivers for your particular video card. You may have to experiment with different drivers. The latest and beta drivers are not always the best for a particular system. I had to try five before I got my viso card working properly and the one that worked was the third one down on the list.

Download the drivers you wish to experiment with to your desktop. Uninstall the current driver through Device Manager, install the the new driver and reboot. Repeat this process until you have one that works.

Edited to add: Thanks for the additional information. :)

This is what I found. You have more than enough outdated drivers to cause crashes. I suggest you take care of these before experimenting with the NVidia drivers. Several of these drivers could well be the cause of your BSOD's. At the very least, they are not contributing to the stability of your system.

I recommend that you uninstall Norton while you are troubleshooting. Norton is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials and make sure Windows Firewall is turned on. After you get your system stable, you can try Norton again; but I do not recommend it.

I also found some obsolete drivers on your system. Before you experiment with the NVidia drivers, update these drivers.

BASFND.sys Thu Apr 24 19:17:12 2003 - this driver is extremely out of date. Broadcom NetDetect Driver belongs to the software Broadcom Advanced Control or Broadcom Advanced Control Suite or ASF or Broadcom NetDetect Driver or Broadcom Management Programs by Broadcom Corporation (www.broadcom.com). This software is out of date. See if Broadcom has an update for the driver and the software.

hamachi.sys Thu Feb 19 05:36:41 2009 - Hamachi Virtual Network Interface Driver is a driver file from company LogMeIn, Inc. belonging to product Hamachi Virtual Network Interface Driver. Update this driver.

k57nd60a.sys Sat Jun 20 07:34:49 2009 - Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet Network Driver Interface Specification v6 (NDIS6.x) Unified Driver. See if there is an update for this driver. If not, you might consider upgrading your network adapter card.

netr7364.sys Mon Nov 12 05:04:23 2007 - I think this is a Linksys wireless adapter driver. It is way out of date. Read this thread - 64 bit drivers for Linksys adapters - Cisco Home Community

PxHlpa64.sys Tue Jun 23 19:16:35 2009 - Px Engine Device Driver for 64-bit Windows or PxHlpa belongs to the software PxHelp or PxHlpa by Sonic Solutions (www.sonic.com). Update or uninstall the software.

RTKVHD64.sys Fri May 22 14:04:20 2009 - Realtek High Definition Audio Function Driver. Manufacturer: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Realtek. Update this driver.

    UltraMonUtility.sys Thu Nov 13 20:10:30 2008 -
UltraMon Utility Driver - UltraMon - Realtime Sof. Update this driver or update the utility program.

If you need help with any of these, post and ask. Let us know when you accomplish all of these.
