Windows 7: Scrambled BSOD when returning from sleep mode

11 Aug 2010   #11

Windows 7

Right now I cannot get a video card to add in. It must be the drivers from the chipset. I am also getting video hardware error in the "Action center". I updated the bios and swept the video drivers out in safe mode. But again, no luck.

Here is the Unexpected Shutdown report if this can shed ANY light.

thank you again!

I read it, and tried everything catalyst 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, and 10.7. I am still getting this scrambled/freeze when it sleeps.

Also performed memory test, no errors. I have reseated the memory and reset the CMOS. Still nothing.

I am not admin though I can "run programs as Administrator." I run driver sweeper as Admin, and Admin in safe mode, but does it actually get rid of the old/bad drivers?

I should mention, I just built a new PC with asus motherboard and similar credentials and the exact same scrambling thing happen on sleep mode. But it resolved when I updated the drivers, and why is this computer with nearly the same credentials not complying?

Is BIOS same version?

Driver Sweeper will completely remove drivers. Doubtful drivers are the issue though.

A fix/solved

After much wasted time installing uninstalling drivers removing programs etc., I found a fix that consistently gave me no scrambled/artifact screen when waking from sleep mode.

Another forum said to go into BIOS and disable the sideport.

For people with ASUS M4A78T-E:

Go to BIOS --> Advanced settings --> RS7800 --> I think there is an option like

I just did UMA. After months of defeat, finally a solution.

Finally, is this safe for the computer? What is UMA and sideport? and why do the "whocrash" reports point to atikmpag.sys?

Please mark thread as solved.

BSOD When returning from sleep mode.
I've included the Minidump file. Useful info: I have gotten BSOD many times before that really seemed to be a busted memory block. I suspect this because it only happened when I would click a link to open a pic or video sometimes. That's when it caches to memory, so it makes sense that...
