    Odd problem

Approx 2 months ago my computer began to randomly die on me. I'd been planning to repave my system anyway, so I figured I'd give that a go before getting all worked up.. Anyways, that solved the problem (I went from x86 W7U to x64 W7U)... for 2 months. Now my computer is playing up again, rebooting randomly (no BSODs, just _dying_).

Any ideas where I even start troubleshooting this? There are no minidumps (no BSOD) so I'm not sure what to do.

    Thanks!

Have a look into the Event Viewer. Maybe you can find the culprit.

One interesting thing I notice is

The server {DC0C2640-1415-4644-875C-6F4D769839BA} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.

    and shortly after

The kernel power manager has initiated a shutdown transition.

Any idea why it would initialize a shutdown?

I don't believe that COM object is causing your shutdowns, although I suppose anything is possible. That CLSID is for iTunes, so I would bet something else is failing between that event and the shutdown. If you remove iTunes, does the problem persist?

    I think I've nailed it...

The process C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe (DESKTOBASE-PC) has initiated the restart of computer DESKTOBASE-PC on behalf of user NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM for the following reason: Operating System: Recovery (Planned)
    Reason Code: 0x80020002
    Shutdown Type: restart
    Comment:

Which according to some Googling is a WU thing... even though I have automatic updates disabled.
