    Constant BSOD

    Hi,

Ive built a system up by myself and have had intermittent BSODs since ive started it up. I replaced the wireless adaptor card and things seemed to calm down. I would get a BSOD rarely, but not enough to worry.

Ive recently uninstalled Norton Antivirus which came with one of the components of the system as it was a 90 day license and it had expired. I left AVG on the system to be the AV.

As I have uninstalled Norton, the BSODs have come back and are quite common again.

    - x86
    - No original OS, system was brand new
    - OEM
    - System is about 3-4 months old
    - OS is also about 3-4 montsh old

    Anyone have any solutions?

    Cheers.

Well system may be 3-4 months old, but the drivers are more than 2 years old.

    These need updating

These crashes start in may. there are things that were installed then caused problems and have been removed. Then new causes and removal, then more.

These are mostly broken down into 3 types

    Memory. To test yours
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

    Drivers
    Run a system file check
Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
    SFC /SCANNOW

    Hardware
Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .. A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint. Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress. You can read more on this error and what to try here... Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try

Also if you are overclocking stop, if you are running a RAID, update its driver.

I have run the Memtest program on the system and I think its starting to look like a memory error.

Reason being is that I cannot even complete a pass when it is testing out the memory.

The first pass only got into about 5% completion, then it wouldn't go any further.
The second progressed a bit further, but stopped again.

Ive rerun several tests, but ive only progressed as far as about 17-18%.

Everytime ive run the pass, ive gotten numerous errors. The last attempt at a pass the test picked up about 500 errors, mainly test #5 and beyond.

Unless this means something else, im going to take the memory back and get it replaced, which is a shame because its kingston, which I thought would be better. Its also a shame because the computer shop I bought it from are a pain when it comes to warranty issues.

I shall await a reply to see what people think I should do.

    Cheers,
    Ben

Try testing them one stick at a time to isolate which stick is bad

It wont really matter as I bought it as a twin pack, So they'll want both back.

I shall try one at a time though.

    Update.

I went back to the shop and got the RAM replaced. Went home, installed it and the computer worked well for 3-4 days. Then the BSODs started again. Ill try updating those drivers above, I got a few done before I replaced the RAM but some were slightly harder to find, especially because they need to be windows 7 compatible.

Ill post up another minidump soon relating to after the new RAM so then maybe it may pinpoint to something.
