Windows 7: An unsolvable problem?

No, it doesnt seem to matter what App I am in.

Its deffinately not temps, I have used a CPU monitor and GPU monitor to track temps and it shuts down at random times as far as temp is concerned, and it doesn't do it in Vista with exact same software running. I have tried a full CPU burn also and that didnt cause it to shut off.

I am not sure its ever done it whilst I am just on desktop, but certainly has done whilst I am browsing, and deffinately in games etc.

Could be a driver issue. Try booting into safe mode and check if the problem persists. If it doesnt, its likely to be a problematic 3rd party driver.

How do I isolate what the driver is? i think I am resigned to it being a driver issue, but with no BSOD and no dump file I am kinda at wits end as to what I can do to resolve it.

The other thing is there are many people on with this machine running WIn 7 with no issues..

The frustrating issue is sometimes it doesnt happen for hours on end, maybe even a whole day, then it might do it 2 times in 20 minutes, it really is v random.

Clean boot method, thats how.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

It takes a couple of weeks after a clean install for the issue to start happening, if that really is the only solution to the issue then I will have no choice but to return to Vista and suck it up that I can't have Win 7.

I was talking about Clean boot, not clean install. Nobody can help you if you are not prepared to at least read and follow instructions.

lol, I see you're the bad cop.

Its a fair point, I didn't read the instructions because I am at work and not with my laptop so intended on reasding them later.

Will do precisely that and get back to this thread with any updated finds.

Looks some drivers are not up to date (see attached thumbnail), in particular Base System Device

Did you tried to install the last "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers?:
(not F6 install one)

I linked Intel but saw yours is a Standard AHCI, could you have a look at the named pilote?
