Multiple BSOD - when using firefox

    Hi there,

Came across this forum looking to see what could be causing my BSODS which are happening very frequent now that I've built a new pc - rarely happened to me before using 32bit windows 7 but now on my custom build it has started to happen quite frequently using Windows 7 64bit professional. I've attached the perfmon and jcgriff2 reports.

It didn't happen until about a month after I built the pc which makes me think it is a driver/program/service problem I may have recently installed. Now it happens regularly but before it does, firefox force closes and crashes constantly! could be a plugin or flash related perhaps?

hope someone here can make sense of this?

    Thanks,

    Al.

    Welcome!

First, install the ATK0110 Driver for your motherboard here: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Support-

That should update your old ASACPI.sys file.

    Install this Realtek driver: Realtek

Update your ATI drivers: Graphics Drivers & Software

If you have more BSODs, please enable driver verifier: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable

Wait for several crashes, then follow the BSOD Posting Instructions again.

These were all caused by memory management. to test your memory
Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

They all involve MsMpeng.sys which is either defender of MSE. If defender I would turn it off, if MSE I would reinstall it.

The old drivers should all be updated especially Asacpi.sys which is a known trouble maker.

    Thanks guys :)

This might be a dumb question but Jonathan, you mention below install the driver ATK0110 for my mobo. Do you mean a bios update? I can't find a "driver" section in the downloads on their site!

    Thanks again,

I will be running mem test when I get a chance and will post the results :)

    Cheers.

    It's in the Utilities section.

Sorry for not being more clear.

eek so I ran memtest from cd boot for 2 passes - will do more later if required but ran out of time. +5000 errors.

I do notice the machine is sluggish starting up and the crashes occur when I am doing a "lot" - this evening while watching a video and installing a program

Does memtest record the results anywhere? There were no crc errors. Could this be "bad" ram? this is a brand new build pretty much. I notice in my mobo manual the specific ram I have is not explicitly mentioned on the vendor compatibility list. Is there anything I should try before swapping out the dimms in the slots? updating bios or configuring the ram to run at a higher voltage?

Its crossair xms3 DDr3 4x2gb pieces. says in memtest pc1337 but my mobo only seems to mention pc1333 - could this be a problem??

thanks again, I have removed gbridge and speedfan and updated drivers mentioned - realtek and atk0110 (asacpi). I don't know what the other 2 are?

    cheers.

    No log saved by Memtest.

Follow these directions: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

That should help you diagnose your memory issues.

just to update - I was lazy n' didn't want to test each stick so I upgraded the bios (old was from march new one from August) ran memtest for 4 hours while I was out - when I came back 4 passes had transpired without error system seems more responsive but I haven't run any intensive apps together. Will update if I bluescreen again but I'm hopeful :)

    thanks again for your help!

That may very well have been the solution. Thanks for the update!

Let us know if you need anything else, or if the problem returns.

argh its returned! The BSOD is preceded by a rather nasty noise also :/ Also, I couldn't boot into windows this morning without going into safe mode first and then rebooting. I have not installed any new programs since the memtest which returned no errors over 4 passes.

I do get a "cannot install device software" everytime I boot up - this is listed as "other devices -> Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" in device manager. However, all my usb ports seem to be fine!?

Anyway I've attached the latest perfmon and Dump if you guys could look at it again to see if I've missed something?

    thanks as always
