Random BSODs, recently updated to Windows 7

    Hi,

I am having random BSODs. I updated to Windows 7 32 bit earlier this week from XP using a clean install.

I was having the issues with Windows XP and was hoping that the change of OS might of got rid of the problem, if anything it seems worse!

I have run and attached the BSOD Dump & System File Collection report along with the perfmom report and also copies of the minidumps.

My computer is now 6 year old purchased in 2004 with XP. Since purchase I have increased the memory and added a second hard drive. I have run a memory test and drive test and there seems to be no error.

    Could someone please help.

    Hi and Welcome to SF!

First of all, the dmp point to different stop codes and different things were blamed. If you system was old, I would recommend you to look for any BIOS update, it would be very important to have a system with latest BIOS update so that all the component can work properly.

Secondly, I would like you to remove Avast, some stop codes in the dmp suggest Antivirus software to be the cause:
    avast! Uninstall Utility
then install MSE, it's free and BSODs free, very well-known:
    http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

    Please perform system file check:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
    as well as:
    Disk Check

I truly recommend you to test your hard drive again, I suspect it:
HD Diagnostic <---Instruction and links to the hard drive test programs.

I can see you have so many out of date drivers as well:
    Code:
    smwdm smwdm.sys Wed Nov 30 01:30:22 2005 (438C9E3E)
    SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio driver

    Code:
    RimSerial RimSerial.sys Tue Nov 25 00:02:13 2008 (492ADE15)
RIM Virtual Driver (probably associated with a Blackberry)

    Code:
    mohfilt mohfilt.sys Fri May 06 18:40:19 2005 (427B57A3)
The process Filter Driver to Support Modem-on-Hold or mohfilt.sys belongs to the software Intel(R) 537EP V9x DFV PCI Modem or Filter Driver to Support Modem-on-Hold by Intel Corporation (Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Server and Embedded Processor Technology - Intel).

    Code:
    919e7000 91b2e180 IntelC51 IntelC51.sys Fri May 06 18:42:22 2005 (427B581E)
    91b2f000 91bc6180 IntelC52 IntelC52.sys Thu Mar 02 05:30:51 2006 (4406209B)
    919a7000 919b2900 IntelC53 IntelC53.sys Fri May 06 18:40:49 2005 (427B57C1)
The process Modem AFE Driver belongs to the software Intel(R) 537EP V9x DFV PCI Modem by Intel Corporation (Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Server and Embedded Processor Technology - Intel).

Please update them or remove them. System can't run on such old drivers, they should have date at least from 2009 until now.

Hope it's help, let us know if you need further assistance!

    Tuan,

Many thanks for the reply and the advice. One quick question, I have checked the Dell site and found one BIOS update for my computer however it is still dated 2004.

IS this still the best BIOS update to apply or do you know where else I can download a newer BIOS.

    Many thanks

    Hi Malc!

This appear to be your BIOS "BIOS Version: Dell Computer Corporation A05, 23/02/2004". Probably Dell will be the best site to download BIOS update. I would also contact Dell if your system support Window 7.

Please update the drivers I mentioned above or remove them. Window 7 can't run on such old drivers bro!
