Windows 7: BSOD, first in a long time

Earlier in the thread, I mentioned that I had run memtest overnight for 12 hours and a total of 9 passes with no errors. I can run it again, but I want to wait until Driver Verifier either does or doesn't find something.

I'll look around for an update to that driver.

Let us know if you find an update for that driver; to the best of my knowledge, there is no update.

I couldn't find an update, and I already have the latest version of iTunes (which is the only program I use that depends on that driver, I believe).

No BSODs yet with Driver Verifier. I just remember that I'm going out of town tomorrow for Thanksgiving, so I don't think I'll be able to give the computer the recommended 36 hours of uptime with Driver Verifier until next week sometime. I'll report back when ~36 hours of total uptime have been logged with Verifier running.

I don't think it is an ITunes driver. It is a CD-ROM Class Filter Driver by Gear Softwarehttp://www.gearsoftware.com. It is a Vista driver and it may be OK.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!

Update:

I rebooted my computer to run chkdsk, which finished with no errors. When I tried to boot back into Windows, I got a bluescreen before the startup sound came on; I tried again, and this time the startup sound happened and the "Please Wait..." welcome screen appeared, but it bluescreened shortly after before ever displaying the login screen. I'm writing this message from my Ubuntu install.

I'm not sure if these bluescreens are leaving memory dumps. Should I keep trying to boot into Windows, should I turn Driver Verifier off, or what?

So I just shut down the computer, unplugged it, let it rest for a minute and booted it back up. I was able to load Windows with no problem. Verifier is still running. Attached are the two dumps that occurred upon bootup, as described.

Good job with Check Disk.

Your first dump shows an uptime of 21 seconds; Driver Verifier did not load. It is not a a Driver Verifier enabled dump. It blames memory corruption. The second dump, Driver Verifier enabled shows an uptime of 35 seconds. It blames atikmdag.sys, a video driver. This driver is up to date. You can turn Driver Verifier off.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff88002c9864e, The address that the exception occurred at

Because a video card driver was blamed, I suggest testing your video card with Furmark; follow the instructions in this tutorial: Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark. Post your results.

Next, run SFC:
https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Then, I suggest you run Prime and test your CPU and RAM. Follow the instructions in this tutorial and
run 3 separate tests, one on each of the settings (Blend, Small FFTs, Large FFTs). Post back with the results.

Thanks, as always, for your help. As I mentioned earlier, I'll be away from this computer starting tomorrow until Sunday; I'll run all those tests when I get back.

(BTW, there is no link for the Prime95 tutorial in your post.)

Recycling a movie from my harddrive is taking long long time.
Why is this. Like 10 minutes plus and it still says recycling. It should only take a second. Is it bad to let it continue at its own pace or should I restart the PC and try it again?
