    Lots of BSODs since purchase

    Hi,

This is my daughter's machine purchased from BestBuy before Christmas 2009. She has been complaining it BSODs a lot, but this is the first chance I have had to look at it since giving it to her. The machine is an Asus U50A notebook, Windows Home Premium 64 bit OEM installation. I tried to update the drivers to the latest version, as well as the BIOS. It still seems to fail unpredictably, and the tools I use seem to point to lots of causes. I have attached the results of the system performance and the BSOD Dump tool. Thanks for any help!

    Frustrateddw hi and welcome

I can understand why 35 chrashes would test the best of us. It will take a bit of time to sort these out, but in the mean time could you run a system file check

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
    SFC /SCANNOW

Read here for more information SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Let us know the results from the report at the end.

    Frustrateddw hello again

We may have some news for you. In most of the DMPS there is mention of you mcods.sys file (part of your Mcaffee). Anti-virus applications (and Mcaffee especially) have been known to cause BSOD's

    I would do two things.

1-remove Mcaffee and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials (free)

    2-Update the drivers listed below.

Old drivers needing update especially the ones in
    red.

    Code:

    How To Find Drivers:
    - search Google for the name of the driver
    - compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
    - visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
    - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
    - - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
    - - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

    Still a problem

    Jan,

Thanks for taking the time to do such a thorough response! I had uninstalled Mcaffee when I first bought it, and have been using the Microsoft Security Essentials since then. Apparently it must not have completely uninstalled? So I downloaded the uninstall tool and ran it. It appears that driver is no longer there.

I then went and tried to update all of the drivers you listed. All are now newer drivers (never really sure if I have the latest, but at least they are newer), except for the ATK64AMD.sys. I installed all of the driver files available related to ATK for this system from the Asus site. That one is still the 5/12/09 date.

After I completed these updates, I got another BSOD. I was going to rerun the utility to post the info about it, but I noticed that there are no dump files newer than 8/15. I had two crashes last night, and one tonight (8/29 and 8/30). So I'm not sure if somehow the dump files have been turned off? Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Tell you what, go ahead and delete all dumps you have in your Minidump folder.

As soon as you get more BSODs, follow these directions again: https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html
