Randomly Locking Up

I just started having the same problem, with the same computer. Although, I

had only owned the computer for a month and the system started to

completely crash, like power off and lock up resulting in my having to take

out the battery, hold the power button in, put the batter back in and start

it up. This happens randomly, but it hasn't happened since I stopped using

the USB on the top left corner, if you're looking down from the top of the

    computer.

I bought this system from Best Buy with a manufactures warranty. They told

me that there was nothing wrong with my computer because they couldn't

    recreate the problem.

The problem stopped for a month, 5 months into owning it, then happened

again. I ignored it, but then a few days later, while plugging in my USB

cable, I manually crashed my computer. I had accidentally put the USB in

upside down, not forced into the port, or barely into the port, but just

enough to make a connection. Ever since I stopped using this USB for

anything, the computer stop crashing, completely, but Best But can't find

anything wrong with it, even after they shipped it out to have it looked

    at.

Now it's freezing, but the millisecond sound glitch happen within the

second month of owning the laptop, and continued happening until I stopped

    using the port.

Asus Customer support suggested that it could be a bad mother board, but

Best Buy found nothing wrong with it. I say this again because my question

is, does anyone have any reliable evidence that Best Buy's tech are

incompetent? Or is the purpose of sending your computer in to get fixed is

to just spend money and come home with 7 more problems?

My warranty is up in August, and I don't even know what I'm going to do. I

can't afford a new mother board, but under warranty, if they find a

problem, they'll replace it. How do I even know is best buy is that they're being

    honest?

As I was typing this, the computer froze again. I let it set for a while

and noticed the fans started getting louder, the heat sink in the back got

hotter, and the keyboard got unusually warm.

But it's okay, best buy said they're nothing wrong with it <anger>

Does this sound like a bad motherboard?

I have had a G73Jw since November 2010. For the first few months it was fine, then it started to lockup randomly.
Eventually it just died and could not get past the Windows boot logo. This was about May 2011.
I was overseas and contacted the Malaysian Asus center. (hard to find).
They took about 6 weeks to turn it around and when I asked what they did they said they replaced the HDD, the CPU and cleaned the cooling.
It has run well for about 4 months but it has a very light workload (not used everyday).
Now I started to use it everyday again and it has just started to lock up.
I noticed the same thing as before when it started locking up - the CPU fan (one the rear left looking from the front) starts running faster and the air coming from the vent seems hotter. Went it died the CPU was running super hot air from the vent.
I think this is a fault with the model but in typical Corporate fashion Asus is not saying anything. So I will have to wait until it dies agian and send it back under warranty, it will work again for a short while but when the warranty is over and it dies it will be another paperweight.
I will never buy another ASUS. Ditto for HP (same sort of experience with a dv9000). So thats 2 top end expensive notebooks in 3 years (HP only had a 12mth warranty and the fix was going to be 800 usd, and it would only happen again in another 3 mths)..
Seems there is nothing else to do.. Sick of this rubbish. paid almost 3000 AUD both times for 12 months of troubled use.

I figured out recently that the USB on the top left corner of the laptop is causing my problems. I stopped using it and the problems stopped.
